The Government of India will also give 132 Padma Awards in 2024

Padma Awards – one of the highest civilian awards in the country- are announced on Republic Day every year. These awards are conferred in three categories: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri. The Awards are given in various disciplines/fields of activities, viz.- art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc. ‘Padma Vibhushan’ is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service; ‘Padma Bhushan’ for distinguished service of high order, and ‘Padma Shri’ for distinguished service in any field.

The President of India confers these Awards at ceremonial functions held at Rashtrapati Bhawan, usually around March / April every year. For 2024, the President has approved the conferment of 132 Padma Awards, including two duo cases (in a duo case, the Award is counted as one). The list comprises 5 Padma Vibhushan, 17 Padma Bhushan and 110 Padma Shri Awards. Thirty of the awardees are women, and the list also includes eight persons from the Foreigners / NRI / PIO / OCI category and nine Posthumous awardees. Padma Vibhushan: Ms. Vyjayantimala Bali, Shri Konidela Chiranjeevi for Art, Shri M Venkaiah Naidu for Public Affairs, Shri Bindeshwar Pathak (Posthumous) for Social Work. Padma Bhushan: Ms. M Fathima Beevi (Posthumous) Public Affairs, Shri Hormusji N Cama Literature & Education – Journalism, Shri Mithun Chakraborty and Ms. Usha Uthup for Art.

Padma Shri: Ms. Gita Roy Barman,Shri Ali Mohammed & Shri Ghani Mohammed (Duo) for Art, Ms. Joshna Chinappa for Sports,Shri Joe D Cruz and Shri Pierre Sylvain Filliozat for Literature & Education
