Gujarat Titans Lift their maiden Tata IPL Cup

The Gujarat Titans (GT) were crowned champions of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 after defeating the Rajasthan Royals (RR) by seven wickets on May 29, 2022, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

Hardik Pandya led from the front with an all-round performance which powered Gujarat Titans to their maiden IPL title after a clinical 7-wicket victory over Rajasthan Royals. Meanwhile, Supernovas were crowned champions of the My 11 Circle Women’s T20 Challenge 2022 after beating Velocity by four runs on Saturday at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.

From 2022, Tata Group replaced Vivo, a Chinese mobile phone manufacturer, as the title sponsor of the Indian Premier League. This year, in January, the IPL’s affiliation with the Tata Group as title sponsors was approved at the league’s Governing Council meeting.

More than eighty years back, the Tata group made a specific commitment to backing sports and sportspeople in an India where natives rarely got an opportunity to showcase their skills. The setting up of the Tata Sports Club in 1937 would prove to be a boon for generations of budding and established talent employed across the Tata group.

It was customary in India’s early post-independence years for the big companies of the group, Tata Steel, Tata Power, Tata Motors and Indian Hotels among them, to employ emerging sporting talent and provide a stage where they could display their ability and maximise their potential.

Tata Sports Club supplemented such backing by putting together squads that dominated their respective sports on the national stage.Tata Sports Club was equally outstanding in cricket, with stars such as Nari Contractor, Dilip Vengsarkar, Ravi Shastri, Sandeep Patil and Saurav Ganguly.

Tata Group took over as the IPL 2022 sponsor until the 2023 edition. In 2018, VIVO agreed to a five-year partnership worth Rs 440 crore until 2022. However, due to border tensions, the Chinese mobile manufacturer’s contract was paused for a year in 2020.

In 2021, 2022, and 2023, the Chinese mobile manufacturer committed to honouring the deal’s reminder. Before Vivo returned in 2021, sports fantasy site Dream11 had taken over as the title sponsor in the 2020 edition. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Vivo Mobile India Pvt Ltd announced in a press statement that their cooperation for the Indian Premier League in 2020 would be suspended.

Following this, Dream11 was named the title sponsor of the IPL in 2020 for a fee of Rs. 222 crores, about half of what Vivo paid each year. After attempting

to transfer the rights to another company fell through, the Chinese smartphone maker returned as the IPL’s primary sponsor in 2021. Tata IPL 2022 had a total of ten clubs in the 15th edition of IPL, as two new teams, one from Ahmedabad and the other from Lucknow, entered the cashrich league.

CVC Capital is the owner of the Ahmedabad team. The two new franchises were awarded to CVC as one of two businesses that won bids to own them. The RPSG Group won the Lucknow franchise with an offer of Rs. 7090 crores, after winning the Ahmedabad franchise with a bid of Rs. 5625 crores. The two new IPL franchises, Ahmedabad and Lucknow, each have a budget of Rs 33 crore.

As Tata Group replaced Vivo as the title sponsor for the 2022 season of IPL, eight teams, including Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, SunRisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings, and Rajasthan Royals, made a comeback.

The 2022 mega auction took place in Bengaluru in February’s second week of 2022. All of the existing IPL franchises published their retained player list in November 2021, ahead of the upcoming season’s super auction. Some prominent names that the existing clubs agreed to retain for IPL 2022 include MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Sunil Narine, Jasprit Bumrah, Andre Russell, and Glenn Maxwell. The first IPL season was conducted in 2008. And the league has increased in popularity since then, becoming one of the most widely watched sporting events globally. Tata Group IPL began on March 26, 2022. The first match was played between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders.

Indian Premier League 2022 has emerged as better and more thrilling than previous editions!

From March 26 through May 29, 2022, cricket fans were entertained by the league! During the group stage of the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League, a professional Twenty20 cricket league founded by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2007, Mumbai and Pune hosted all matches. The Tata IPL 2022 included ten teams, thanks to the addition of two new clubs, Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants. According to Covid-19 protocols, the matches were played in stadiums in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Pune with a 25% audience occupancy rate.

Wankhede Stadium and DY Patil Stadium will host 20 matches apiece, while Brabourne and MCA International Stadium in Pune will host 15 matches each. Tata Motors is offeringa “one of a kind” Punch Kaziranga-IPL Special edition for auction, and proceeds from this shall benefit conservation efforts at Kaziranga. The successful bidder shall take home the vehicle and a unique IPL experience.
