Jio Platforms Ltd made an impressive entry into the stock market on Wednesday, attracting strong investor interest and securing its position as India’s second-most valuable listed company. The listing marks a significant milestone for the telecom and technology business backed by Reliance Industries.

The company’s shares opened at ₹1,358, approximately 21% above the issue price of ₹1,119. Buying momentum continued during the session, with the stock closing on the National Stock Exchange at ₹1,417.50, registering a gain of around 26.7% over its issue price.

The strong debut reflects substantial market demand following months of investor engagement and anticipation surrounding the public offering. The listing also places Jio among the leading telecommunications companies globally in terms of market valuation.

The market response to Jio Platforms’ listing highlights investor confidence in the company’s growth prospects and its expanding role in India’s digital economy. Market participants have shown interest in its telecommunications business as well as its potential to generate revenue through technology-led services and digital connectivity.

The listing also drew attention to the wider Reliance group. The combined market capitalisation of its listed companies reportedly moved ahead of that of Tata Group’s listed entities, underlining the scale of Reliance’s presence in the Indian stock market.

Following the strong debut, market participants will closely monitor the company’s ability to sustain its valuation through consistent earnings growth, improved profitability and returns on invested capital.

Jio Platforms has joined the ranks of the world’s most highly valued listed telecom companies, alongside Bharti Airtel. However, comparisons with international peers require consideration of differences in revenue, business models and operating markets.

Industry observers suggest that Jio’s valuation also reflects expectations beyond conventional telecom services. Its positioning as a technology-led enterprise, coupled with opportunities in digital services and data consumption, forms an important part of the market’s growth outlook.

As the company moves beyond its initial stock market debut, its long-term performance will depend on translating investor expectations into sustainable financial results while continuing to expand its digital and connectivity offerings.
