Who said what on India’s G20 Presidency

What has India gained out of G20 Presidency? How should India use the G20 Presidency? What India as a country should have achieved by the end of its G20 Presidency? These were some of the questions that we tried to examine in the cover story report on G20. We felt the need to highlight a few important quotes related to the report, hence, bringing them out separately.

“India is a strong partner of the US, and I look forward to supporting my friend Prime Minister Modi during India’s G20 presidency.”

United States President, Joe Biden tweeted

“Congratulations to India on the start of its #G20 presidency. Looking forward to working with @narendramodi as his country will lead discussions on how to address the world’s most pressing challenges in 2023.” European Council president

Charles Michel tweets congratulating India

“I want to extend my congratulations to India, which will take over the next G20 presidency. The mandate to safeguard and realize global recovery and strong and inclusive growth will now rest in the hands of His Excellency Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

President of Indonesia Joko “Jokowi” Widodo

“We don’t need one Ambani & one Adani but need 10,000 Ambanis and 20,000 Adanis, then only India will grow. We would like all of you to use the opportunity of G20 to become big in your own respective fields.”

G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant.

“B20 has been instrumental in shaping economic policy statements by the G20 grouping over the years. As India takes over the G20 presidency, the Indian industry’s proactive participation through the B20 India platform will contribute to the G20 dialogue and help develop a conducive environment for businesses to drive growth.”

Sanjiv Bajaj, President, CII.

“The G20 is a great opportunity for us to demonstrate India’s leadership in all spheres, particularly in the provision of health and family planning services, and ensuring the rights of people to information and services are realized. This is an opportunity to reimagine the future of India’s public health and and provide a healthy and happy life for all. It is imperative that we bring the public into public health.”

Population Foundation of India’s Executive Director Poonam Muttreja.

“With emerging economies like China, India and Indonesia, the G20 as a broader and more representative group than the G7 gathers more strength and carries more hopes for the world to come together, especially as the role of the G7 in global economic management slowly recedes.”
